The month of November is diabetes awareness month. As a disease that affects millions of adults and children, I’d like to take a moment to share a few surprising statistics on diabetes.
  • Nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes.
  • Another 79 million Americans have pre-diabetes and are at risk for developing type-2 diabetes.
  • Recent estimates project that as many as 1 in 3 American adults will have diabetes in 2050 unless we take steps to Stop Diabetes.1
Based on the these findings, it’s safe to say that most of us know someone who suffers from diabetes; whether it be yourself, a friend, parent, cousin, or coworker. The numbers are staggering. Not only do millions of children and adults suffer from this disease, but diabetes is also the leading cause of kidney failure; and 2 out of 3 people with diabetes die from heart disease or stroke.2 With millions at risk, it’s important that we do what we can to prevent the onset of this unfortunate disease.
Here is who might be at risk as determined by the American Diabetes Association:
  • People with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and/or impaired fasting glucose (IFG)
  • People over age 45
  • People with a family history of diabetes
  • People who are overweight
  • People who do not exercise regularly
  • People with low HDL cholesterol or high triglycerides, high blood pressure
  • Certain racial and ethnic groups (e.g., Non-Hispanic Blacks, Hispanic/Latino Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and American Indians and Alaska Natives)
  • Women who had gestational diabetes, or who have had a baby weighing 9 pounds or more at birth3
If you are at risk for diabetes or are pre-diabetic you will definitely have some work ahead of you with important lifestyle changes to make. And with an abundance of sugar snacks, soft drinks, and fast food, saying no to unhealthy food choices won’t be easy, but what will be easy is to know that by making healthy choices and changes, you will be adding years to your life!
This month, let’s begin our diabetes prevention by keeping our blood glucose levels healthy. We can start with Slender Fx™ Sweet Eze™ which contains chromium, vanadium and supportive herbs to nutritionally assist the body with the regulation of blood sugar levels. Of course, the ultimate goal is to dramatically reduce those diagnosed with diabetes by introducing them to healthier lifestyle choices now!
Remember, with diabetes, and all other diseases, prevention is the key!
Until next week,
Terri Smith
YGY CEO
I also want to Thank Steve Wallach for this post.
