Keep Your Body Active and Your Bones Healthy This Summer!

There is no denying it, summer has finally arrived! The days have not only become warmer but also, longer. Giving us more time to get active! Here at headquarters, Team Youngevity has started training for American’s Finest City 5k & Half Marathon with some participant’s pursuing their first 5k ever! Goals have been set and are being fulfilled, but what must also be fulfilled is adequate bone and joint supplement consumption, especially for those new to running or exercising.
Bone and joint related ailments affect nearly half of the US population and are the most common cause of severe, long-term pain and physical disability worldwide, affecting hundreds of millions of people.1 While running is a great workout and calorie burner, it can wreak havoc on your bones and joints. This is not only true for older adults, but even younger active adults. Many of us do not consume adequate amounts of calcium in our diets to meet the demands of our bones and joints. Exercising, without proper supplementation, puts your bones and joints at risk for injury.
Calcium supplementation is especially important for women who may experience a decrease in estrogen production, due to age or during extreme periods of exercise, which leads to decreases in calcium absorption. Additionally, a recent study found that calcium consumption for women could also lead to a longer lifespan. The findings were published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, stating that supplemental calcium intake up to 1000 mg/d among women was associated with a statistically significant decreased mortality.2 Not only is calcium consumption good for your bones and joints, but it could lead to an overall longer life in women.
Regardless of gender or age, your bones are of the highest priority, especially for those starting an exciting new exercise regimen. As much as proper diets and exercise are stressed for an overall healthy life, what must also be stressed is the proper care of the body systems that support your activities. For those of you training for your first 5k or your first triathlon, check out the newest addition to Youngevity’s Healthy Body Paks, the Healthy Body Athletic Pak, which comes with not only the required daily intake of Calcium in Beyond Osteo-fx, but also the added support of Ultimate Gluco-Gel capsules!

Theo Ratliff & Rebound FX Sports Drink

Rebound FX, Sports Drink from Youngevity.

Athletes dropping dead? -  Have you ever heard about professional athletes dropping dead on the field?  According to the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, 100,000 youngsters, as well as pros die each year from cardio-vascular disorders as a result of sports- This is twice the number of people that die on our nations highway!  45,000 of the 100,000 play basketball, not boxing or football.  In hard exercise, people sweat out many of their vital minerals- not just sodium and potassium.  Rigorous exertion without replacing  lost minerals can be fatal.  There are sports drinks that are supposed to replace nutrients lost during exertion, these would work fine if they had more than sugar, salt, potassium and food coloring.
Throughout your workout, you are sweating out vitamins and minerals…nutrients that are essential for your body to function properly. Exercise in hot weather further depletes your body of nutrients. The longer you go without replacing these lost nutrients, the more difficult it becomes for your body to replenish them.
Cramping – fatigue – dehydration. Your body is sending signals that these nutrients must be replaced…and fast. These nutrients include major and trace minerals, vitamins and antioxidants, which support your body in fighting free radical damage. Just as you would not continue to run a car without oil, do not continue to exercise without replacing these nutrients.
Dr Wallach has worked with numerous athletes over the years, both aspiring and at the professional level.   He has seen these people and others use many sports drinks on the market today with the belief that sugar, salt and electrolytes are enough to support their body during their workout. With absolute conviction he will  tell you that these are not enough.

THEO RATLIFF

The 18th player picked in the 1995 NBA Draft, Theo Ratliff established himself as one of the NBA’s premier shot blockers during his basketball career. After ranking 19th in the NBA in shot blocking during his first two seasons at 1.55 and 1.46 bpg, he climbed to 4th in the league in rejections in 1997-98, swatting away 3.15 shots per game in a season split between Detroit and Philadelphia. He ranked 3rd in the NBA in shot blocking in 1998-99 at 2.98 bpg as the Sixers made the playoffs for the first time in eight seasons, and was 4th at 3.00 bpg in 1999-2000.
He was the only player to start all 50 games for the Sixers in 1998-99 and led the team in rebounding at 8.1 rpg (20th in the NBA) as well as shot blocking, and was third in scoring at 11.2 ppg. Although he missed 25 games due to a stress fracture of his left ankle, he again led the Sixers in shot blocking in 1999-2000 and was the team’s third-leading rebounder and fourth leading scorer. While Theo was recovering from his injury, he was introduced the Youngevity products and has been using them since in order to insure his continued excellent health and to get a “competitive edge,” vitally important to professional athletes.
In 2010, Theo appeared in 49 games and started 29 of those games with San Antonio and Charlotte, averaging 3.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.24 blocks in 16.4 minutes. He was acquired by the Bobcats and started 26-of-28 games with Charlotte, averaging 5.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.54 blocks. He’s ranked 12th among league leaders in blocks per 48 minutes, scored in double-figures six times, totaled 10+ rebounds once, recorded 3+ blocks in eight games, scored a season-high 11 points against Golden State, totaled a season-high 11 rebounds and three blocks against Washington and posted a season-high four blocked shots against Minnesota. In July, 2010 he was signed to a 1-year deal by the Los Angeles Lakers and retired in December of 2011.
In August of 2012, Theo founded and funded, along with other local, public, and private entities, The Ratliff Activity Center in his hometown of Demopolis, Alabama. Theo’s goal with this center was to provide the community with a center for recreation and a variety of social support programs that include: tutoring and after school programs, parenting programs, early intervention programs, anti-tobacco programs, and exercise and aerobics classes just to name a few.
Theo continues to promote and be the face of the Rebound fx line of products.
